PE

Intent

At Great Kimble School, we provide a high-quality Physical Education curriculum that nurtures big hearts and bold futures through enjoyment of physical activity, personal achievement and positive wellbeing. Led by specialist sports coaches and class teachers, our PE curriculum inspires all children to develop a lifelong love of being active, encouraging them to achieve their personal best regardless of ability.

Through engaging and inclusive lessons, pupils learn about the physical, mental and social benefits of an active lifestyle, supporting them to live healthy and balanced lives. We create a safe and encouraging environment where children develop confidence, resilience and a willingness to participate in a wide range of physical activities.

Our Christian values of Respect, Resilience and Collaboration are woven throughout the PE curriculum, helping pupils to develop big hearts by showing fairness, teamwork and sportsmanship, both in competition and in everyday physical activity. These values support children in becoming good citizens who understand the importance of caring for themselves and others.

We extend learning beyond the curriculum through a growing range of extracurricular opportunities, enabling all pupils to try new sports and shine in their chosen activities. Each pupil receives a minimum of two hours of high-quality PE each week, with additional opportunities to take part in after-school clubs and represent the school in both competitive and non-competitive sporting fixtures. In doing so, we prepare our pupils for bold futures as healthy, confident and active individuals.

Swimming in KS2

Year 3 and 4 will attend swimming sessions in the Autumn and Spring Terms at Risborough Springs pool. They will be assessed by the coaches there and if they have reached the required standard will receive a certificate. Any pupils who have not achieved their certificate by the end of year 4 will be given the opportunity for top up sessions before they leave the school in year 6.
