Equalities

At Great Kimble we are committed to equality of opportunity and to creating an environment where every child and adult is valued, respected and able to thrive. We want all members of our community to feel a strong sense of belonging.

Our legal duties

We fulfil our responsibilities under the Equality Act 2010, which protects individuals from discrimination and sets out the Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED). This duty requires schools to:

  • eliminate discrimination, harassment and victimisation
  • advance equality of opportunity for all
  • foster good relations between different groups

Our equalities work is built directly upon these principles.

A Shared Equalities Framework

As part of a multi‑academy trust, our school works within a trust-wide equalities framework. This includes a set of strategic equality objectives that guide and strengthen our approach across all schools. This framework promotes consistency, ambition and high standards in how we champion fairness, inclusion and equal opportunities.

You can find more information in the trust’s Equalities Information and Objectives Policy on the trust website.

Our School’s Bespoke Equality Objectives

While the trust provides the overarching structure, each school - including ours - develops its own bespoke equality objectives. These reflect:

  • the unique context and needs of our school
  • the lived experience of our pupils and families
  • the priorities identified through our curriculum, behaviour, wellbeing and community engagement work

Our Equality Objectives for the year 2023 - 2026 are:

  1. To continue to develop the school’s wider curriculum so it is rich and diverse, enabling all pupils, including those with protected characteristic as defined by the Equality Act, to feel valued and confident and able to achieve their potential.
  2. To promote pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development through appropriate curricular opportunities with a focus on teaching children to consider different perspectives and to celebrate and value diversity, in order to prepare pupils as good citizens and for their future.
  3. To ensure all pupils within our school achieve their very best by continuing to regularly analyse pupil data to ensure early identification of trends or areas of concern, with a particular focus on pupils with identified SEN. Ensure this analysis is regularly shared with all staff and governors and that action is taken to address any concerns or under achievement.

Monitoring and Reporting

We monitor our progress throughout the year and publish an Annual Equality Progress Report, which summarises the impact of our work and outlines next steps. A link to the latest report will be available on this page each year,

This process ensures our approach remains effective, transparent and responsive to the needs of our pupils and community.
