Good morning, Year 3! I hope you all had a lovely bank holiday weekend. I also hope you had lots of fun celebrating VE Day on Friday and if you did, make sure you send in your photos for us to see!

Today, I would like you to focus on your numbers and think about inverse operations. Why are they so important in maths? Inverse operations reverse the effect of another operation. For example, addition is the inverse of subtraction 10 + 5 = 15 and 15 - 10 = 5 and division is the inverse of multiplication

35 divided by 7 = 5 and 7 x 5 = 35

These operations have an important relationship that can really help us with our Maths!

For example, if you were given the calculation 84 divided by 7 = ? and you were unsure of the answer, you could use your 7x tables to help you. If you know that 7 x 12 = 84 then you know that

84 divided by 7 must be 12

I have put some Maths tasks all about inverse operations at the bottom of this page for you to download. I hope you have a lovely day getting stuck into some numbers!

Good morning Year 3!

I hope you had a lovely day yesterday, I can’t believe how windy it was!

Today I would like you to connect with nature. If possible, I would like you and a member of your family to go on a walk and take the time to really look around and observe the beautiful nature all around us. You might even be lucky enough to see some wildlife if you’re quiet enough! While you are there, collect some small pieces of nature like leaves, bark or flowers – but make sure you don’t pick flowers from someone else’s garden! You will then use what you found to create a beautiful collage. You could even place them strategically to make another picture (see the leafy hedgehog below!) it’s completely up to you and your creative ideas.

I can’t wait to see your wonderful creations!

Have a wonderful day.

Hello Year 3!

I hope you had a lovely day exploring nature yesterday, please send in photos of your creations to Y3homelearning@gkglt.co.uk so I can see them!

Today, I want you to select a character from a book and  consider what might be a good job for them. You can choose  something completely suitable such as a security guard job for Superman or a more oddball approach such as a pastry chef.

Maybe the Gruffalo wants to be a ballet dancer or Ron Weasley is applying to be a hairdresser?

Either way, I would like you to write a letter from the perspective of your character and apply for a job.

Be sure to explain why your character would be great employee  and what special skills they would possess to make them ideal for  the role. Really sell you character explaining all the great  attributes they possess!

Have a wonderful day!

Hello again my lovely Year 3s!

Today, we're going to travel back to Ancient Egypt once again and this time we're going to be investigating the mesmerising Pharoahs! They truly were a fascinating bunch with lots of power and influence over the common people. I would like you to conduct some research in the Pharoahs of Ancient Egypt and present your findings in some way. You may like to focus on one individual Pharoah and the most famous is Tutankhamun - what can you find out about him?

You can present your learning in any way you would like! You could do a Powerpoint presentation, a poster, a leaflet...you could even ask someone to film you talking about it. It's up to you!

Here is a website full of interesting facts to get you started...

I hope you have a lovely day and remember to send me photos of your wonderful learning!

My lovely Year 3's, we have come to the end of another week!

My inspiration for your final task this week came to me during our Great Kimble staff quiz that we've been having every week. We have been having so much fun hosting and participating in different quizes and I thought it would be a lovely activity for you. I would like you to make your own quiz for your family! You could make a PowerPoint to show your questions or you can write them on a piece of paper. Try to have at least 3 different rounds, you could have:

  • a music round where they have to guess the song or artist
  • a history round and test their historical knowledge
  • a picture round of famous landmarks and they have to say where in the world you find them
  • a story round where you read them a line from a story and they have to guess the book
  • a numbers round with some mathematical questions
  • a family round where they answer questions about the family
  • a true or false round
  • or get creative and think of your own ones!

It's completely up to you, think outside the box!

If you struggle to think of some questions to ask, you can use the internet or non-fiction books to find some interesting questions and answers

.

I hope you have fun creating your quiz and hosting it with your family.

Have a fabulous weekend Year 3!
