At Great Kimble we are committed to equality of opportunity and to creating an environment where every child and adult is valued, respected and able to thrive. We want all members of our community to feel a strong sense of belonging.
Our legal duties
We fulfil our responsibilities under the Equality Act 2010, which protects individuals from discrimination and sets out the Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED). This duty requires schools to:
- eliminate discrimination, harassment and victimisation
- advance equality of opportunity for all
- foster good relations between different groups
Our equalities work is built directly upon these principles.
A Shared Equalities Framework
As part of a multi‑academy trust, our school works within a trust-wide equalities framework. This includes a set of strategic equality objectives that guide and strengthen our approach across all schools. This framework promotes consistency, ambition and high standards in how we champion fairness, inclusion and equal opportunities.
You can find more information in the trust’s Equalities Information and Objectives Policy on the trust website.
Our School’s Bespoke Equality Objectives
While the trust provides the overarching structure, each school - including ours - develops its own bespoke equality objectives. These reflect:
- the unique context and needs of our school
- the lived experience of our pupils and families
- the priorities identified through our curriculum, behaviour, wellbeing and community engagement work
Our Equality Objectives for the year 2023 - 2026 are:
- By July 2027, increase the percentage of pupils eligible for Pupil Premium
achieving the expected standard in combined Reading, Writing and Mathematics so that it is in line with, or within 5 percentage points of, their non-Pupil Premium peers. Progress will be monitored termly through pupil progress meetings and data analysis, with targeted interventions implemented and reviewed to ensure impact
- By July 2030, improve attendance and punctuality for all pupils by reducing
absence rates on the days immediately before and after school holidays. Attendance will be monitored following each holiday period, with targeted communication and support provided to families where concerns are identified. Success will be measured by a year-on-year reduction in holiday-related absence and improved attendance rates on these key days across all pupil groups.
- By July 2030, promote understanding, respect and appreciation of
cultural diversity by embedding opportunities for pupils to learn about different cultures, traditions, and global perspectives across the curriculum and through whole-school activities.
- By July 2030, strengthen equality, diversity and inclusion within the
workforce and governance practices by implementing inclusive recruitment,
professional development and staff wellbeing.
Monitoring and Reporting
We monitor our progress throughout the year and publish an Annual Equality Progress Report, which summarises the impact of our work and outlines next steps. A link to the latest report will be available on this page each year,
This process ensures our approach remains effective, transparent and responsive to the needs of our pupils and community.
