Church Of England School

An Academy of the Great Learners Trust

27th March 2020

Hello Everyone!

I hope you are all well and have had an enjoyable first week at home school! My children and I made the bread from the guided reading recipe, and it was delicious! I told my children all about the yeast’s daughter cells that we’d learned about in STEM week. Did you explain about them to your family too?

Today, I thought you might enjoy a symmetry task. Please start with the activities in the Maths learning document. As a guideline, this should take you around 30 minutes. Remember at school, we have ‘on task’ talking breaks or short movement breaks around every 10-15 minutes. If you need to take a little time to refocus, then please do so.

Next, I’ve prepared a learning activity for you to practise identifying symmetry and drawing symmetrical lines. Please use a ruler to draw the symmetrical lines. The task is split into Hot, Extra Hot, Spicy and Chilli Challenges. Just as in school, please choose the task that you feel is most appropriate for your learning journey, starting on either Hot or Extra Hot working your way towards the Chilli Challenge. If you’re enjoying the tasks, then please work your way through them taking as much time as you need. However, my expectation is that you need only spend around 20 minutes doing these puzzles.

For your extra activity, I thought it would be fun to extend the symmetry learning with Lego challenges. I’ve included the instructions in the extra activity document. I play this at home a lot with my children, I hope you have as much fun as we do.

Friday is also the day for your weekly spelling challenge. Please use the spelling challenge sheet to see how your brain is getting on remembering your spellings. I will post some new spellings for you after the weekend on Monday morning.

I can’t believe it is the end of this first week of home school. I am very proud of all of you for adapting to this temporary learning change. I have included a ‘Star of the Week’ certificate for you to print off and complete. I wonder what your biggest achievement of the week has been. If you get the chance, please email the office to let me know.

I hope you enjoy today’s challenges and have a wonderful, well deserved weekend break.

Best wishes,

Mrs Morris
